WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Freud called it “the talking cure”. In the movies, everyone measures their social progress with their weekly visit to their shrink!

In South Africa many voices feel psychotherapy is an elitist practice.

The aim of psychotherapy is to facilitate a process whereby you, the client, can understand what you are going through - and to help you find a way to deal with your problems, hurt, trauma, and feelings, in order to find a way to move forward constructively.

What would happen if you came to see me?

The process is yours and the space is yours.  It is not about the caricatured interminable Doctor-Patient couch relationship as depicted in the movies, but rather evolves as we go along.

I would try to get a sense in our first meeting of what the primary issues are, and what I could do to assist you with it, and together we would come up with a plan of action.

We can terminate at any time and you are also at liberty to tell me at any time whether the process is helping you cope with your current situation and issues.

PLAN OF ACTION

In our first meetings I will assess what the primary issue is and discuss it with you

You may need insight to understand why you are trapped in a particular pattern or why we allow ourselves to allow others to influence us in a hurtful and counterproductive mannner

This might require

A quick intervention to fix a bad habit

A longer process to reach cumulative understanding or to heal long-term deep pain.

You might  need medication - in which case, I will refer you on to a psychiatrist for further assessment

The Key to a Loving and Lasting Relationship

My book explores how, even today, you can have a happy, viable and long-lasting partnership.

What makes some couples achieve happy long-lasting relationships, while others, in spite of trying, do not?

That is the key question.

The key to a loving and lasting relationship is locked up in understanding and accepting a good-enoughparadigm.

In reading the book you will come to realise that meaningful relationships have to be re-negotiated and re-chosen in order to adapt and grow.

It is available at Exclusive Books and is available as an e-book through www.kalahari.comor through
